Prakriti (Uniqueness)

Ayurvedic terms

Prakriti (uniqueness) - Prakriti is the basic constitution of the human and fundamental to understanding Ayurveda In fact Prakriti is decided at the time of fertilisation of ovum and egg and we are born with a specific combination of three doshas VATA, PITTA and KAPHA. The practice of Ayurveda is aimed at bringing your doshas back to a state of Prakriti or natural balance.

Besides Prakriti BODY CONSTITUTION Ayurveda has established the human personalities MAHAPRAKRUTI (Psycho-Spiritual Constitution) in three divisions (Gunas) i.e. SATWA, RAJAS and TAMAS.

SATWA - Pure Humane Personality - Where pure qualities like kindness , the discretion in the use of articles , the forgiveness , the truthfulness , the righteousness ,: the belief in the spiritual , the knowledge , the wisdom , the intelligence, the memory , the firmness and the non attachment, are most prominent.

RAJAS - Mixed Humane Personality - Where mixed qualities like excessive miseries, roving-spirit, impatient, pride, falseness, unkindness, arrogant, vanity, pleasure, lust and anger are prominent.

TAMAS - Lesser Humane Personality - Where lesser qualities like despondency, atheism, unrighteousness, unintelligence, ignorance, dull headedness, lethargy and sleepiness are prominent.

The uniqueness or Ayurvedic Prakriti of a certain person is composed of a unique combination of Vata, Pitta, Kapha (Body Constitution) combined with a unique combination of Satwa, Rajas and Tamas (Spiritual Constitution).

Ayurvedic Prakriti -The combination of Body Constitution and Psycho-Spiritual Constitution help an ayurvedic doctor to decide a specific line of treatment of an individual.

Prakriti is the most popular and most misinterpreted part of Ayurveda. Before deciding Uniqueness or Ayurvedic Prakriti of a person, we use percentage of Vata pitta kapha and also percentage use of Satwa Rajas and Tamas.
We must bear two things in mind; firstly that Prakriti can not be determined by reading books or surfing on the internet net, Secondly it is almost difficult to find a pure vata or pure pitta or pure kapha person. Prakriti always exist in a different combination of three doshas and Gunas.

It is as such important to always consult an Ayurvedic physician before determining one's Ayurvedic Prakriti.
