More than a year the most popular phrase would be 'social distancing?' But here we were, locked in our homes, using terms like ‘social distancing’, ‘isolation’ and ‘quarantine’ more times in a day than we thought-all thanks to a virus that has put our lives somewhat on hold.
While most of us still can’t wrap our heads around what just happened and feel like we are in the middle of a never-ending long movie that will eventually end, there is still some solace to be found that we are confined to our homes and rooms for self-quarantine, amid family and loved ones.
You've likely seen ads for products and diets that claim to give your immune system a boost to help you ward off corona. Unfortunately, the reality is that those kinds of products aren't really offering you any benefit, there's no evidence that they help instantly in fighting disease. "The immune system is very finely tuned. Nothing can boost it immediately beside your good food, health spices and life style. As providers and practitioners, we become custodians of the health and well-being of our trusted patients. Even in this pandemic, there are of course new hopes and fresh aspirations and a tremendous quest for inner health. Ayurveda can be a good source of healing and inspiration and to go forward into the future with health and confidence This pandemic has resulted in a yearning for inner balance, self-actualization and natural health.
As per my understanding we need to work on the individual level of self. This awakening of self-consciousness may bring a yearning for inner balance, self-actualization and freedom from the chaotic world we were living in.
Staying calm during the corona-virus pandemic isn't easy. Yet we all know that prevention is better than cure. While there is no medicine yet for COVID-19, it will be good to take preventive measures. I recommend the following self-care guidelines for preventive health measures:
How we eat is as important as what to eat. How we cook is as important as what we cook, what kitchen equipment is used, with what feelings food is prepared -all affect us as human beings.
- No cell phone TV or anything while eating
- All attention must be or way you are eating
One simple way to begin to reconnect with the earth is to give thanks before we eat by imaging the food in our bowls as it once was, growing from the earth. In these giving thanks we begin to acknowledge our inter connectedness with nature on a level far deeper than the intellectual one.
You should follow strict timings with respect to your meals, waking and sleeping. You should sleep early almost an hour before midnight and rise early as close to sunrise as possible. Breakfast should consist of natural uterine cleansers and tonics like Papaya at least till good control is achieved.
Lunch should comprise food which is easy to digest. Use of bakery products, foods containing excessive salt, red meat etc must be avoided. Cruciferous vegetables, cereals must be preferred and prepared with very minimal salt. Sea food must be strictly avoided as it contains certain toxins that manipulate uterine activity. Dinner should comprise light foods, lots of carrot and parsley. Salt again must be restricted if not using Himalayan Crystal salt. Salt and Sugar plays a major role and the minimal usage the better. Ayurveda to go on a complete salt restriction for at least 10 days on commencement of treatment and then reintroduce.
Avoid all forms of refined sugar. Even fruit juices which contain fructose. Have fruits like Papaya, Musk melon etc low on fructose. Reduce your insulin spikes. Do not eat after sunset. If you find cravings for sugar cut coconut rind [entire one with oil in it] and eat. It is highly beneficial.
Another very important thing to keep in mind, don’t ignore other symptoms and illnesses during corona time. We are open all seven days a week from 10 am to 5 pm to help you as an Ayurveda doctor in case you need any health assistance.
Be alert but not scared.
